Workplace language instruction resources
The ALT Branch is developing a series of courses for workplace language instruction. The first in the series, English at Work: Manufacturing, is complete. The second, English at Work: Health Care, is expected to be posted here in autumn 2010.
English at Work: Manufacturing
This course was originally written for one company participating in English at Work. It was re-written to generalize the work of that company and make it accessible to any learner in the manufacturing sector.
The manufacturing course is particularly useful for English at Work instructors, but any EAL teacher with students at lower benchmark levels and an interest in manufacturing will find strategies and activities that they can use.
Teachers may select and download any document (MS Word) for their own use. As is the case with any good resource, modification of the textbook examples and activities will best meet the level, needs and interests of your students.
There are 16 modules. Modules generally have eight sections. The introduction explains the content of the module.
