Who can take English classes?

Manitoba residents can take free English classes if they are a: permanent resident or Canadian citizen born outside Canada; a refugee claimant; provincial nominee (including spouses and adult children).


If you are new to Manitoba

Go to the ENTRY Program. While you are taking part in this orientation program they will arrange for your language assessment.


If you are not new to Manitoba

Phone WELARC (Winnipeg English Language Assessment and Referral Centre) to make an appointment with a language assessor: 943-5387.

The language assessment simply tests what you can do in English. You do not need to study. After the assessment you will be referred to the English program that is best for you.


Many options for language learning

There are many different English classes in Manitoba. There are classes at different levels, and with different goals. It is important that you get an assessment so you can join the correct class for your English level and life or career goals.
