Improve English for college and university

If you plan to study at university or at a technical college there are English language prerequisites. Contact the university or college you want to enter to find out the language prerequisites for your program of study.

Academic English Program for University and College Entrance
This program at Red River College is free to eligible immigrants. The program develops the academic language and study skills for university and college programs in Manitoba. Upon successful completion of this program, the English language requirement for admission into academic programs at the University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, and Red River College, will be waived.

University Preparation Program for Newcomers (UPREP)
This program at University of Winnipeg consists of courses that are designed for individuals whose first language is not English who wish to attend the University of Winnipeg. The focus of this program is on functional language needed for success at an academic university level. The program is free for eligible adults. You must have a Canadian Language Benchmark level of 7 or higher.

Foundations for Academic English
The University of Winnipeg also offers a course that gives students at a Canadian Language Benchmark level 5/6, who aren't quite ready for UPREP, the benefit of consolidating all English academic requirements into one preparatory course.
