Once you or your representative have received by mail a Letter of Approval from the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program you are a Manitoba provincial nominee.
Congratulations.
Nomination means that we have recommended to the Government of Canada that you receive permanent resident status.
Your next step is to apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (
CIC) for your permanent resident visa.
Application forms and instructions are on the
CIC website.
You must submit a separate application to
CIC because it is the Government of Canada that issues Canadian permanent resident visas.
The application process includes submitting forms and personal documents as well as undergoing security, criminal and medical checks.
As a Manitoba nominee your permanent resident application will receive expedited processing by
CIC. Being approved by the MPNP means we have already sent
CIC your Certificate of Nomination. With your Letter of Approval we included a special label for the envelope you send to
CIC that identifies you as a Manitoba applicant.
Please note:
You must apply for your visa before the expiry date indicated on your MPNP Letter of Approval.
By applying for permanent resident status as a Manitoba provincial nominee you are obliged to live, work and settle in Manitoba.
Manitoba reserves the right to withdraw your certificate at any time before you become a permanent resident of Canada.
CIC simplifies visa application procedures
CIC changed, effective December 1, how it processes permanent resident applications, and introduced credit card payment and other changes to make the process easier for applicants.
The changes are explained in detail at
CIC.
CIC will continue to accept applications under the previous system until March 31. However, Manitoba nominees are strongly encouraged to submit their permanent resident visa applications under
CIC's new system, in which completed forms and payment must be submitted by mail or courier to a centralized intake office.
More information on the visa application process
- You must complete all visa application forms and include all documents according to the instructions on the CIC website.
- Place your MPNP Letter of Approval on top of your package. Affix the green label (enclosed) to the outside of the envelope and mail it to CIC.
- CIC will send you confirmation of having received your application and processing fee.
- CIC will inform you when to undergo the required medical exam. Arrange for this exam as soon as (but not before) requested by CIC.
- CIC may contact you for more information or ask you to provide further documentation. In some cases you may be asked to appear at a Canadian visa office for an interview.
- Upon approval of your application CIC will send you a letter with instructions to submit your passport(s) and additional photos.
- CIC will then return the passport(s) to you with your Canadian permanent resident visa(s).
- Upon receipt, finalize your travel arrangements to Manitoba.
- Report any changes:
Family status: If your marital status changes or you have a child, you must inform CIC as soon as possible. Follow the instructions on the CIC website.
Failure to do so before you leave your home country could result in cancellation of your visa and/or your ability to sponsor these family members at a later date.
- Address: If you move you must notify CIC and the MPNP.
- Processing times: You can check the status of your application online at CIC.
