LICENSING STEPS
ACCOUNTANT, CERTIFIED MANAGEMENT

Certified management accountants (CMAs) are strategic financial management professionals with the knowledge and skills to provide leadership, innovation and visionary thinking to organizational decision-making. CMAs are team players who apply their unique blend of expertise in accounting, management and strategy to grow successful businesses.

CMAs are invaluable in meeting the diverse needs of all types and sizes of organizations, from entertainment to aerospace, from big oil companies to small start-up enterprises. CMAs provide an integrating perspective to business decision-making, applying best management practices in strategic planning, finance, operations, sales and marketing, information technology, and human resources to identify new market opportunities and help organizations maintain a long-term competitive advantage.

Unlike other accounting and business professionals, who specialize in financial reporting, auditing or after-the-fact verification, a CMA is equipped to look to the future to provide real-world strategic direction, business management and leadership.

The certified management accountant designation in Manitoba is regulated by the Certified Management Accountants of Manitoba (CMA Manitoba).

To begin the process of becoming a certified management accountant you must:

  • hold a degree (minimum 90 credit hours) from a recognized Canadian university or hold a degree with equivalent standing from a foreign university

For individuals submitting international university transcripts, an assessment of whether your credentials are equivalent to a Canadian degree must be completed by IQAS (International Qualifications Assessment Service).

The Strategic Leadership Program (SLP) explores and applies the practices required to succeed in today's highly volatile and competitive global environment. Through its focus on business processes, the SLP will equip you with the strategic management capabilities demanded by today's leading enterprises.

SLP content represents the best practices employed by successful enterprises to achieve market dominance. An organization's competitive growth strategies - whether it is introducing new methods, modifying existing ones or eliminating products or services depending on market opportunities - are the foundation of the program.

At the heart of the SLP are interactive sessions during which you will exchange views and experiences under the guidance of experienced moderators. Each of the six program modules include a two-day interactive session. You will also complete a series of pre-session and post-session assignments related to the concepts covered in the interactive sessions.

Note: Applicants with a recognized university degree and five or more years of senior-level experience as a strategic management professional may qualify for the CMA Executive Program. If your application is approved you will begin a one-year, part-time path to obtaining a CMA designation.

The fees, documentation requirements, and assessment process detailed above are subject to change without notice.

Language: As part of your work, you are required to have intermediate or advanced English language skills in the four basic language areas - listening, speaking and reading and writing comprehension. Therefore, you should be able to:
