WORK IN YOUR PROFESSION 
PODIATRIST

Podiatrists are medically trained health-care professionals who specialize in treating disorders of the feet and lower limbs. They diagnose diseases, deformities and injuries of the foot. They also treat foot pathologies using physical therapy, medication and surgery. They work in private practice, clinics and hospitals.

This profession is regulated in Manitoba by the College of Podiatrists of Manitoba.

Note: The college conducts the licensing process in English only. Thus, all documents must be translated into English.

Licensing process in Manitoba

To practise podiatry in Manitoba you must:

  • have a bachelor of science in podiatry from a program recognized by the College of Podiatrists of Manitoba
  • be registered with the College of Podiatrists of Manitoba

You must complete the following steps:

STEP 1: Contact the College of Podiatrists of Manitoba and tell them you are an internationally trained podiatrist who wants information on how to become registered to practise in Manitoba.

STEP 2: Complete the College of Podiatrists of Manitoba application form.

You must submit the following:

  • photocopy of degree received from a podiatry school recognized by the college
  • name and address of the dean and faculty that issued the degree
  • notarized or certified photograph taken within the last 12 months
  • minimum of two professional references
  • minimum of two character references
  • written verification by the original jurisdiction and every other jurisdiction where you are or have been registered during the last seven years, confirming you are good standing
  • proof of continuing professional development, CPR and first aid
  • criminal record check
  • verification of immigration status
  • application fee: C$150

STEP 3: Complete the entrance examination if required.

STEP 4: When all requirements have been met and fees paid, you will be licensed to practise as a podiatrist in Manitoba.

Additional information

Annual membership fees are C$2,000.

Annual malpractice insurance fees start at C$1,000.

The fee for the entrance examination is C$300.

As part of your work, you are required to have intermediate or advanced English language skills in the four basic language areas - listening, speaking and reading and writing comprehension. Therefore, you should be able to:

  • participate in discussions of a complex nature
  • share your thoughts clearly
  • understand technical documents
  • write reports in English with confidence
