The IEAP program helps internationally educated agrologists gain formal recognition of their non-Canadian credentials from the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists. This pilot program provides a process so internationally educated agrologists can fulfil the 'Agrologist-in-Training' requirement of MIA, in order to qualify for professional registration (P.Ag) in Manitoba.

Internationally Educated Engineers Qualifications Pilot Program

IEEQ helps internationally educated engineers meet licensing requirements, and gain recognition as Professional Engineers from the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of Manitoba (APEGM). The IEEQ Pilot Program supports internationally educated engineers in meeting the `academic qualification' requirement of APEGM. It reduces the average time for this process from 3 years to 1. Academic qualification is the first step in the process toward a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license in Manitoba.

Educational Series for Internationally Educated Nurses in Preparation for the Canadian Registered Nurses Examination

This program provides regular series of study sessions of 30 hours each to help internationally educated nurses prepare for the October and February sittings of the Canadian Registered Nurses Examination (CRNE). It aims to increase confidence and test taking skills of exam candidates; improve success rates on the Canadian Registered Nurses Exam; and increase the number of licenses being granted to internationally educated nurses.

Internationally Educated Teachers Pilot Program

Individuals who complete the IET program will be eligible to seek employment as teachers in Manitoba and resume their teaching careers. The program provides the following supports: 1) university coursework needed for Manitoba certification adapted to the needs of IET participants 2) orientation to Manitoba curricula 3) in-school placements 4) mentoring by experienced teachers 5) employment search skill development, and 6) language development.

Early Childhood Educator Internationally Educated Qualifications Program

This program helps iInternationally trained early childhood educators to meet the qualification requirements of an Early Childhood Educator 2 (ECE 2) in Manitoba. Successful applicants receive mentoring/advisory support from a peer assessor, and an off-site advisor/assessor. The program includes an orientation session, workshops, and networking meetings. Participants who are unemployed at the beginning will be placed in a paid position co-funded by the province, and the sponsoring daycare. Average completion time for the program is 14 weeks.

Technical Writing for Engineering Technologies Pilot Program

To certify as an Engineering Technologist in Manitoba, applicants must complete a technical report to the standards of the Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba (CTTAM). Most internationally educated Technologists/Engineers who attempt this report on their own are unsuccessful. The program will improve the ability of candidates to write a technical report in English that will meet CTTAM standards. Work internships may be provided to those who qualify and are underemployed or unemployed.

Accelerated Professional Career Development Program for Internationally Educated Accountants

This program helps internationally educated Accountants attain the standard of a student entering the professional (PACE) level of the CGA program of Professional studies. In one year participants receive training equivalent to four years of part time study in the regular CGA program. Students successfully completing the program will be awarded the CGAAM Foundation Studies in Accounting Diploma.

Gap Training for Skilled Welders Based on WIN Process Model

Internationally trained welders will be recommended for gap training based on a demonstration of their welding skills. Subject matter experts use practical assessments to measure participant’s technical skills and identify gaps. Customized gap training is arranged and on-site training provided with various employers. Employers will provide documentation once the candidate meets the employer's standards as a welder. Individuals who successfully complete the program are either hired directly by the participating employers or are helped to find employment elsewhere.

This five-week program provides specific communication and cultural instruction to help internationally trained professionals access training for entry level positions in the financial services sector. It also provides successful applicants Canadian experience in the form of a paid, three-month work experience.

The current development and implementation of the program includes: Development of a curriculum appropriate to the communication needs of internationally trained accountants. This curriculum will emphasize: • occupation-related content and context to assist language development, • development of networking skills with colleagues and employers (guest speakers) , • cultural awareness building and strategies for succeeding in a diverse workplace, • oral communication and writing skills through the use of career-related tasks and procedures involving decision-making and problem-solving , • review of appropriate grammar structures in meaningful spoken and written communication, • exercises aimed at improving oral communication (pronunciation, rhythm, stress, etc.). The program also involves collaboration with a content expert from the CGA, one of the professional accountant bodies, and the program director is exploring developing language partners in industry.

This program focuses on enhancing the communication skills and cultural awareness of internationally educated engineers in order to increase their employment opportunities in Canada. Participants develop strategies, knowledge and networks needed for self-promotion in the Canadian engineering context. The program works closely with University of Manitoba's Internationally Educated Engineers Qualification Pilot Program. The program maintains a website offering support for distance learners in the field of engineering.

This program helps internationally educated Teachers achieve excellence in English while introducing the diversity of educational styles and institutions in Manitoba. Class content is determined by individual needs assessments; programming includes language specific to the functions of a teacher, as well as general English skill-building and information about the culture and system of education in Manitoba. Participants are assisted in articulating educational and career plans, and are made aware of additional training and support, linguistic or otherwise, that will help them find teaching positions or related positions in the field of education. Participants are also assisted in accessing work experience or job-shadowing activities.

The program seeks to equip each participant with strategies, knowledge and networks needed for self-promotion in the Canadian agricultural context. The program will also mentor a new instructor, thereby increasing occupationally specialized language training capacity.

The work internship program uses a mentorship and coaching approach to provide professional and skilled immigrants with Canadian work experience directly related to their education and experience. It gives Manitoba employers access to a pool of talented potential employees, supports the offering of structured workplace-based mentorship placements, and helps implement strategies for increasing workplace diversity. Offsite training occurs 1 day per week, and focuses on essential skills for professionals, career management skills, and self marketing. Specialized language training tutors are available to assist students as needed. All interns complete a skills portfolio.
