Trades Fact Sheets

Manitoba has more than 50 skilled trades that are regulated by the provincial government. Each trade has set standards and conditions of training. The following is a list of trades. Each name is linked to a "fact sheet" that describes the process to certify as a journeyman or register as an apprenticeship for that trade.

NOTE: Compulsory and voluntary certification
Of the more than 50 skilled trades in Manitoba, only these nine have "compulsory" certification. Compulsory occupations require workers to be certified or registered as apprentice in order for them to practice in the occupation. For electrical, gas or pressure welding work you must have a valid licence from the Mechanical and Engineering Branch of Manitoba Labour and Immigration.
